A Springtime Hello!
It seems that we’ve finally crawled out of our igloos here in the Mid-South, where I call home. Wintery weather hasn’t kept me from getting out on the road this year however. With a tour out west last January, a European Tour in February, followed by a month on the bus with Donavon Frankenreiter – I’ve been on the go. I saw a lot of the country, a lot of the world in fact. I played in places that I had long dreamt of seeing, like Jackson Hole, WY and Marfa, TX. I even stopped off and did a gig at The Royal Albert Hall along the way!
But now it’s time to get weeding. Things are turning green around here in the best of ways. In other words – new music to record. I’ve been in the studio in Nashville with drummer Jerry Roe and bassist Lex Price. These two brought such energy and soul to The Narrows. Something about these times that we’re living in has been like a jolt to the writing process for me. The 12 new songs have a real fire to them! It’s looking like an early 2018 release! I’ll talk more about all of this in the days ahead of course.
Come June 2nd I’ll be sharing the bill with singer Anaïs Mitchell at Chicago’s Old Town School Of Folk Music. I’m very much looking forward to this show, to hearing Anaïs for the first time and returning to Chicago. I’ll continue onward to Milwaukee, WS on June 3rd to perform at The Back Room At Colectivo Coffee. In August I’ll hop over the Atlantic to play a string of festival dates. I’ve got three shows in Norway and another at Denmark’sTønder Festival. It’s going to be a great festival tour with additional club dates in London, Dublin and Cork. Starting in Norway, I’ll be joined by Olso based multi-instrumentalist Alexander Lindback on drums and Norwegian bassist Torjus Eggen. Catch me with the band in Drammen, Kristiansandand Mo i Rana. And finally, Scottish singer-songwriter Dean Owens will be my special guest on all three UK dates.
Having a little break between tours, I’ve been diving into one of my other joys, that being drawing and working up art designs. I launched a line of shirts in April, premiering with my Wolfpack Baseball Tee. It’s based on the old baseball tees that I grew up loving in my little league days, with a vintage look and feel that I’m forever drawn to. It’s been a fun project. Cool to see it all sprout from the ground upwards, designing the art, sharing the shirts on my Grant-Lee Phillips Facebook Band Page, down to popping these babies in the mail. I’ve gotten so into to that I’ve just designed a short run of kids tee shirts. This one’s on a banana crème shirt and features my rendering of a meerkat astride a slice of cake. The Grant-Lee Phillips Meerkat Cake youth Tee and adult-unisex Wolfpack Baseball Tee are available for a limited time at my online boutique, which I’ve dubbed Dull Knife Saloon.
My Official Grant-Lee Phillips General Store is also well stocked with Music and More. Stop on in!
As always, I thank you for your support, enthusiasm and I look forward to seeing you at the show! All my best, Grant-Lee
