This month marks the ground-breaking of my next album. The recording sessions commenced on April 10th at Dan Auerbach’s Easy Eye Sound in Nashville, TN. Auerbach of The Black Keys has built one of those rare rooms where a band can stir up a real tornado – nothing sterile here, just mojo for days. With the staggering/swaggering rhythm section of drummer Jerry Roe along with bassist and multi-instrumentalist Lex Price, I’m making the record I’ve been aching to produce for a long while. Add to this, veteran steel guitarist Russ Pahl and it’s a serious kind of brew. So blessed to be working with these fellas. Plugging in the old Gibson has never felt so good or been so loud. Boy I needed this. Unhinged, tender, raw are a few words that come to mind – a collection of songs that have welled up over the last thirteen months. I’m absolutely stunned by the voodoo and the power that engineer/mixer Collin Dupuis has summoned out of the studio speakers. I’ll have plenty more to share as the process unfolds of course but if I don’t open the mail, answer the phone, or forget to shower – well, you’ll know why. Hunkered in the bunker. Can’t wait to share it with you. Grant-Lee 4/17/14
