Greetings from the Ice Age:

I’m excited to find myself on the verge of a new release in 2018. My new album, Widdershins, comes out on February 23rd. It’s my ninth solo album, proceeded by four albums with Grant Lee Buffalo. It all adds up to a mystical thirteen! Whatever that means. Personally, I’m just so glad to see this album finally come out. I’ve been trying to keep the lid on it for several months now and it’s boiling over. For starters, I couldn’t have asked for better musicians and recording engineers. Drummer Jerry Roe and bassist Lex Price, who joined me on The Narrows, are back on board. I do so much touring on my own that when I get the chance to plug in and turn up with a band like this, I relish the moment. Recording at Nashville’s Sound Emporium with Michael Stankiewicz was a privilege. Having Tucker Martine mix the album was a serendipitous boon that I could not have predicted.

Key to it all, the songs were written quickly, inspired by the events and the moods that have shaped this period. I’ve long admired street photographers for their ability to capture, in an instant, so much more than can ever be contained within the cropping of an image. It’s a kind of window that invites us to look closer than we might otherwise. A song attempts something similar, its borders governed by time. These songs are my photos, run and gun, gorilla style.

Over the last month or so, a few of the songs have premiered, including Totally You Gunslinger . It was just added to The Sound of Country and Alt Americana playlist on Amazon UK!! The second streaming single was The Wilderness, also available for streaming on itunes and other platforms. In the lead-up to the release, the third and latest streaming single Walk In Circles is now live for all ears.

A live-acoustic performance of Walk In Circles, directed by Stacie Huckeba, makes it’s online debut this week at This video performance features a different take on the song – minus drums. I’m on the Gibson Jumbo. Lex Price is featured on upright bass with Justin Schipper on pedal steel.

Meanwhile, my self-produced video teaser for Walk in Circles is also up on Youtube.

“Bitterness and broadsides with beatific melodies” **** I’m pleased to note that Widdershins has just received a 4 Star Review in the UK’s Record Collector Magazine! Grab a copy at your local news-stand!

I wish to thank AppleMusic for adding my single, The Wilderness to the Eclectic Rock Playlist. I’m very honored to hear my song among the great artists on this list.

Finally, there’s still time to take advantage of the Widdershins bundle that Yep Roc Records has to offer. We’re talking signed CDs, vinyl LPs,  Limited Edition silkscreen posters, shirts…a limited demo CD! Check it out!
